Self-expression on a shoestring

At Dombey & Daughter, we want to teach you. We want to impart real knowledge of the kind that bestows real independence, as well as a fascinating and fulfilling journey. With our craft workshops, we hope to create new crafters and advance existing ones to a higher level. Assistance to the student will be available throughout the course, which will generally run over a series of weeks and will include the option for flexibility for those of you with busy schedules. A proper teaset, a coffee-maker and cake will be on hand to ease things along.

As the workshops are just being introduced in the week starting 12th May 2014, there can be an element of flexibility regarding dates and times! To discuss your requirements, please contact Samantha on 07887 698456, email at dombeyanddaughter@outlook.com or visit our Facebook page. Alternatively, just pop in at 26 High Street to chat about your needs - a friendly welcome and a cup of tea await you.

Introduction to Machine Knitting - 1 day workshop

This largely-forgotten art is enjoying a resurgence in popularity, but with serviceable domestic knitting machines available on eBay and from a few trusted UK dealers retailing at prices of up to Â£300, it can be a big decision to purchase your own machine. Or perhaps you've recovered, salvaged or inherited a machine and have little or dim knowledge of how to use it. For £60 you can spend a day of one-to-one tuition with a qualified machine knitting teacher, who will teach you the basics of machine knitting, familiarity and maintenance as well as providing guidance for buying your first machine or improving one you have already. You will also machine knit a miniature sweater; all materials will be provided as will a light lunch in addition to our usual refreshments. A basic knowledge of hand knitting is required for this course and prior confirmed booking of two weeks is essential. The day's workshop costs £60.
